Halep won4-6, 6-2, 6-3.Showing no nerves in only her second major tournament, Osaka wonthe first set but then struggled against the 2014 French Open runner-up fromRomania.Halep broke Osaka to love in her first service game of thesecond set and converted the first of two break points at 5-2 to level atone-set each. In the third, Halep again broke Osaka to love for a 5-3 lead andthen served out the victory.Osaka hit 26 winners, but 38 unforced errors undermined hereffort to improve on her third-round showing at her first Grand Slamtournament, this year’s Australian Open.Muguruza, who was the runner-up at Wimbledon last year andreached the quarterfinals at the French Open in 2014 and 2015, lost one servicegame to Wickmayer in the first set but otherwise had no real difficulties.Wickmayer had no break points in the second set and saved noneof the six she faced, while Muguruza had an impressive ratio of 19 winners toonly 11 unforced errors.last_img read more
